Mardi Gras Murder Mystery Party

A Mardi Gras murder mystery gives a party a plot: everyone arrives in masks and beads as a suspect, three rounds of clues and accusations fill the evening, and the killer is unmasked at the end.

Each guest gets a private link to their character on their phone, the clues show on the TV, and the host plays too. Nothing to print, no box to order.

Death at the Speakeasy

1920s · 6–16 players · about 2 hours

Death at the Speakeasy is our jazz-age mystery: a band, a bar, a singer and a room full of suspects in 1927. The story is set in Chicago, not New Orleans, but the music, the costumes and the mood of a Mardi Gras party fit it, and it plays 6 to 16.

What the night looks like

Chicago, 1927. The Velvet Hour is the best speakeasy in the city, and its owner has just been found poisoned in his office during a police raid that turns out to be fake. The singer, the bandleader, the trumpet player, the bootlegger and the cop on the take all had a reason.

Guests read their character before the party and come dressed: 1920s jazz age, Mardi Gras masks, or both. On the night, three rounds of 20 to 30 minutes bring new objectives to every phone and new clues to the TV. Guests mingle, bargain and accuse between rounds.

After round three everyone votes on their phone and the reveal plays on the screen. About two hours with food.

Tips for a mardi gras murder mystery

Masks on until the reveal

Ask guests to keep their masks on through the rounds and take them off when the killer is named. It makes a good photo and a good ending.

Purple, green and gold

Beads, a few masks by the door and a jazz playlist do the decorating. The Party Pack includes a playlist and a décor list.

Food between rounds

Serve something to share during each round, and save the king cake for after the reveal.

Numbers change

Change the player count on the party page any time before Round 1. The core characters are always in.
