Bachelorette Murder Mystery Party

A murder mystery is the bachelorette activity for a group that would rather do something than sit through games with a list of questions about the couple. It works in a rented house, a hotel suite or a private dining room, and it needs nothing shipped.

One person sets it up, adds the guests, and everyone gets a link. On the night the host runs it from their phone. No pack in the post, no envelopes.

Death at the Speakeasy

1920s · 6–16 players · about 2 hours

Death at the Speakeasy is the pick for a bachelorette: a glamorous 1920s bar, costumes that double as a photo shoot, and a cast that plays fine with a mostly female group because guests can play any character regardless of the character’s pronouns.

What the night looks like

The Velvet Hour, Chicago, 1927. The owner is dead behind the bar and every guest in the speakeasy has a motive. Three rounds of interrogation, a vote, a reveal.

Anyone can play any character. If the group is all women, the bootlegger and the cop are still yours to cast. Guests play the role; the pronouns on the card are a suggestion, not a rule.

About two hours. Runs well after dinner, before the night out.

Tips for a bachelorette murder mystery

Make the bride the singer

The jazz singer is the centre of the room and has the best costume brief. Or make her the detective in spirit and let her interrogate everyone.

Costumes are the photo shoot

Pearls, feathers, headbands. Put the group photo before the vote, while everyone is still a suspect.

Rent a house? Use the TV

Open the screen link on the TV in the living room. Clues appear when the host advances the round.

Keep rounds to 15 minutes

A bachelorette group talks fast. Three short rounds keep the energy up and leave time for the rest of the night.

Questions hosts ask

Does it work for an all-women group?

Yes. Any guest can play any character. Nothing in the game checks who is playing whom.

How many players?

Six to sixteen for the Speakeasy mystery.

Do we need to print or ship anything?

No. Everything is on phones and one screen. A print view exists if you want paper.

Can we set it up the week before and pay on the night?

Yes. Setup is free. You pay $29 once, when you press Start.
