The Last Dance at the Hotel Mirabelle

Monte Carlo, 1958. Sylvie Laurent, the most famous face in French cinema, dances at the Hotel Mirabelle's summer gala and is found dead in her suite at ten past one. The hotel doctor says her heart gave out. You two are not so sure. A detective case for two, about 75 minutes: each of you holds different evidence, so you only solve it by talking.

How a case works

1. Split the evidence

Open a chapter and each phone shows different evidence. Read yours aloud; your partner reads theirs. Neither half solves it alone.

2. Question the suspects

Pick 2 questions each per chapter from the suspects' list. Plan who asks what: the answer only appears on the phone that asked.

3. Make the accusation

After Chapter 3, agree on who, why and how, and submit it from one phone. The solution plays out, and you see how many of the three you got.

The victim

Sylvie Laurent, film star. Found dead in bed in Suite 12 at 1:10 am by her husband. On the night table: a glass of cognac and the bottle of heart drops she took every night at eleven. The hotel doctor says her heart simply stopped.

The suspects

Nobody has to play them. They answer your questions on your phones.

Raymond Laurent

Her husband and manager

Married her, manages her, spends her money.

Marco Bellini

Her co-star

Her leading man on screen, and off it, until tonight.

Gloria Fontaine

The rival actress

Lost the part of the decade to Sylvie. Has not stopped saying so.

Dr. Félix Aubert

The hotel doctor

The Mirabelle's physician. Kind, discreet, always there.

The detectives

Two of you play the first two. A third and fourth can join, and the evidence is shared out between everyone. Anyone can play any detective.
